The Dim Light of Possibilities
Nathaniel Wonderful's Writing journey
Since my early youth, reading has played a significant role in my life. The allure of books captivated me, even during the days of my preschool ignorance, kindling a desire within me to unearth the wisdom concealed within their pages.
Literature classes at school were a great delight to me, though often my teachers, disillusioned by their professions and the changes of the new democratic era that followed the Velvet Revolution in the Czech Republic, were the greatest bullies of all.
As time unfurled its scroll, writing too became a cherished pursuit, though initially ruined by the malevolence of a teacher who cast me into the life of a jailbird in the prison known as school. Yet, writing became a beacon of new possibilities in my challenging childhood, akin to a dim light glimpsed through the narrow corridor of locked doors, the keys to which I would not discover until much later.
I started with writing short stories and essays, primarily as school assignments. This served as both a practice for my skill and a way for my imagination. However, the limitation of short formats never quite suited my tastes. Thus, I typed my first novel, heavily influenced by Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire as thirteen years old. This was my first encounter with English literature, aided by a physical dictionary, because of my zero understanding of the language.
That was in the year 2003. Ironically, it does not seem like ancient history now, but a nightmare from last night, which I am glad to have awakened. Natheless, I have traversed a long distance since those days, polishing my skills, learning harsh lessons, and departing my homeland to forge a new life across the ocean.
Most of the doors in that imaginary corridor remain shut, its cold tiles turned into a dusty and thorny path beneath a scorching sun. Yet, I harbour no regrets for the steps I have taken, and I am determined to build my kingdom, stone upon stone.
Join me on this voyage—observe, follow, or become one of my brethren.

The Fateful Meeting
My return to writing I did not meet my wife by the leopard cage at the zoo, as in The Cremator by Ladislav Fuks, my favourite author. Our fateful meeting happened instead in a now-abandoned tea shop in Prague on my birthday in 2019. It was not a longing for a...

The Fall into Oblivion
The Journey of My Writing Growing up in a land devoid of rich opportunities to master foreign languages, I was tethered to my native tongue, spoken only within the borders of the Czech Republic. My hearing, plagued by an inability to distinguish and filter tones, limited my learning mostly to...
